Have you ever been moved by the faith, the fortitude -- the stick-to-itiveness -- of those who came before you?
When I talk to multi-gen families, they often express a sort of awe about the family members who came before them. They want to grab and document those people's stories and the essence of their loved ones. Their perseverance, vision, faith. Humor in the face of it all.
In response to this desire by families, my team and I go all in. We creatively capture a person's spirit, the magnitude of a full life journey.
I recently ran across a video of the great American poet #ToniMorrison. In the video clip, she says perfectly what I feel about my vocation, the reason I do what I do with legacy films.
Feel free to substitute "woman" with "man" or "person" where you like:
"I think about my great-grandmother and mother, and her daughter and her daughter-all those women. I mean, incredible women! They never knew from one day to the next, but they believed in their dignity, that they were people of value, that they had to pass that on. And they did it! So that when I confront these sort of 20th century problems, what could it be? Ha. They were just absolutely clear and absolutely reliable, and they had this sort of intimate relationship with God and death, of the things that strike fear into the modern heart. They had a language for, I don't know… a blessedness maybe, but they seemed to not be fearful."
I wish you a belief in your own dignity, your own value. That's what we want to pass on. We're on a mission to preserve and pass on the best things in life:
family love
enduring values
meaningful relationships
history that got us here
